Kings and Clowns Drama School, was founded by Rani Grennell, a graduate of the Betty Ann Norton Drama School, and is currently working in a number of schools in Kildare and Wicklow.
At the age of eighteen she began teaching Speech and Drama in her former school, before entering Trinity College.
Her time studying French and English at Trinity came to an abrupt end when she was offered a part in ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ in the Gaiety Theatre. She has shared the stage with such greats as Ray McAnally, Stephen Brennan, Madeline Erskine, Tom Hickey, Christopher Casson, Emmet Bergin and Liam Neeson.
Following a long touring run of ‘Cuckoo’s Nest’ she performed in many fringe theatre productions and has worked in many of the major Theatres in Dublin and Cork. Television work includes ‘Ros na Run’ and ‘Siol’ (a short film) for TG4.
In 1981 she opened her own drama school with 10 pupils! Now, thirty-five years on, there are past pupils, of the school, in Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow, Wexford, England and Spain.
She, currently, teaches in Blessington, Kilcullen, Valleymount and Milltown. Recently she has developed a Drama programme for children with Special Needs and facilitates four classes during the week in Milltown, Newbridge and Naas. In addition, Rani provides tuition in her Studio in Harristown, where students, children and adults, prepare for exams set by the Royal Irish Academy and the Guildhall.
Although students of the School have performed professionally, she is passionate that the tuition is not just about performance on stage but, more importantly, performance in life.
