My name is Hannah Claire McCann , I am a textile fine art student in the National College of Art and Design . My practice revolves around natural imagery and personal memories . My work is based around sculptural textiles, Hand and machine embroidery, photography and illustration .
Title of Thesis /Research project 2016 : The exploration of tactile mediums in art therapy with a focus on the elderly and the visually impaired
I see myself as an Artist and a facilitator who finds enjoyment in hand made and heavily embellished pieces. My target audience would mostly be elderly people and people with specific learning and therapeutic needs. I am also interested in how art can engage with both the general public and children in a learning environment. I think my work sits in a public setting through shop window display and props for performance and theater. I can see my work being used also in a learning environment for the visually impaired and as a tool for educating children about Irish environmental issues such as conservation and natural history.
I was born in June 1995 and grew up in Ireland in County Laois. My childhood was rural, from living in such a natural environment I have always found inspiration in nature, memories and family . I am an aspiring art therapist and hope to complete a masters in Art therapy soon .
