ABOUT GARYS CYCLES
The Store – Its History and Now
In 1960, Paddy Rooney started off in life as a Cycles Mechanic, working in the local cycle shop in Sligo. Those were the days when everybody cycled to work and school and before we had two-car families. At that time, it was all about repairs and secondhand bikes.

In 1962, he started repairing bikes in his workshop in Quay Street and built up a loyal following, looking after the needs of Eire Og Cycling Club (which they are still involved with).

In the early 70s, Gary took up cycling with the Eire Og Club. He sold his first bike at the age of 13 and was hooked. He spent the next few years selling to everyone he knew and then went big time; in 1986, when Sean Kelly & Stephen Roche were at the height of their careers, he opened a new shop in Quay Street.

On 3 June 1992, Garys Cycles moved across the road to their new 2500 sq ft shop and then, an even bigger move in 2011, across the road to their new Concept Store on Lower Quay Street, alongside the Garavogue River in the heart of Sligo and next to The Quayside Shopping Centre.

This Concept Superstore is the first of its kind in Ireland and has to be seen; stocking all the top bike models including Trek, Garys Cycles offers the full range of bicycle supplies and bikes for sale including hybrids, racing bikes, single speed bikes, mountain bikes, kids bikes and accessories. There is a new clothing shop within the store and you cannot miss the impressive flatscreen TVs mounted on all the walls.

With so many choices, how do you choose the right bike for you? The team at Garys Cycles makes it easy and fun with complete cycling solutions for all types of riders, from the highly specific bike such as a triathlon bike to functional bikes such as hybrids.

Bicycle prices depend on make, quality and weight. You can pick up a bike from at little as €199.00 to a top of the range Trek Emonda SL8 model at the price of €4,100.

The team at Garys Cycles are all avid cyclists themselves, cycling to work and cycling as their main sport.

They welcome you to come and browse their bike shop, get their advice and have a look at what they offer – they promise you will be impressed.

Garys Cycles are sponsors of the Northwest Mountain Bike Club and the Eire Og Cycling Club (http://www.eireogcycling.com).
