So what is Nutritional Therapy? Nutritional therapy is the application of nutritional science in the promotion of optimum health and peak performance and disease prevention. Nutritional therapy encompasses the use of carefully compiled recommendations for diet and lifestyle in order to alleviate or prevent ailments and promote optimal health.

In clinic visits a person's whole system is reviewed and our aim is to to find the root of the problem - not just treat the symptoms.

“Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food.”
~ Hippocrates, ca. 400 BC

Healing is about so much more than taking the right pharmaceutical, herbal or other prescription. We’re reminded often that our health is largely up to us; the choices we make every day can lead to vibrant health or to a never-ending struggle with chronic diseases and conditions, and everything between the two extremes.

Hippocrates believed in the healing power of nature and the power of our bodies to heal themselves. Medicine has come a long way since then, bringing advancements for which most of us are grateful. Even so, each of us have to take a closer look at what we eat, particularly if we don’t feel well.

With so much conflicting information bombarding us about what food is “good” and what’s “bad,” we’re easily overwhelmed with choices.

We have convinced ourselves that our health has nothing to do with what we eat. We spend lots of money and time buying the best trinkets and gadgets of top quality and when it comes to what we eat or put in our bodies we run to the nearest fast food restaurant because it is easy. It’s convenient. We think cooking and preparing food is just too hard! Baloney! We have created a separation between food and illness in our culture.

The time has come when we have to treat ourselves, our bodies and our health with the most nutritious ingredients to support our bodies , our organs so we can maintain good health, good energy, good mental health.

Optimal health is our birthright! As we progress down the path of life, however, we often develop symptoms of ill health and feel a loss of vitality. Nutritional therapy can assist you with these health challenges by identifying imbalances to get at the root of your symptoms.

An example of an “imbalance” would be someone who consumes too many omega 6 fatty acids and not enough omega 3 fatty acids. This imbalance can contribute to a host of issues related to inflammation, skin problems and even depression. Another example would be someone who is deficient in a particular nutrient, such as iron, and as a result, has symptoms of fatigue or a slow metabolism. Someone with food intolerances can have imbalances that manifest as inflammation in the digestive tract and poor nutrient absorption. These are just a few examples of imbalances or nutrient deficiencies that can result in a host of uncomfortable symptoms.

The comprehensive assessment process that I use provides a visual picture in graphic format of an individual’s areas of strength and weakness or “imbalances” in the realm of diet, digestion, blood sugar regulation, essential fatty acids, minerals, and hydration. These six areas are the foundations of nutritional therapy. This foundational approach and assessment process will also highlight potential imbalances in the areas of endocrine, immune, and cardiovascular health as well as detoxification issues associated with liver and colon function. The assessment process will assist me in linking your symptoms to potential nutrient deficiencies and imbalances in body chemistry.

Once priority areas are identified, we will work together to develop a personalized wellness and nutrition plan. This will be a plan that works for you and your lifestyle. The plan will use properly prepared nutrient dense whole foods and lifestyle modifications as the therapeutic foundation. This plan will also incorporate natural supplements as needed in the short term to facilitate the healing process.
